Shame on the Portuguese nation!

More Portuguese artifacts in foreign hands

This was recently posted in one of my fora, even though the news is three or four years old. The person that posted this replied that our government didn't have money to buy pieces of our national heritage, but they have money to buy dozens of luxury cars for government officials, to replace other luxury cars that were only three or four years old. Ridiculous, isn't it?

Now, I know that we can't buy everything, and it is actually a good thing that some pieces of our heritage (some being the key word) stay abroad in museums to teach foreigners something about our history. What I can't comprehend is why did we just give one hundred million Euro to Morocco to protect some of their sites with historical value, when we have dozens of medieval churches, towers, palaces and God knows what else needing urgent repairs? This is common sense!

Another thing that pissed me off happened a few years ago.

Today the Portuguese government said there is priceless diamond royal Portuguese jewellery among the pieces stolen. The museum had them on loan the government. Six of 15 Portuguese pieces, including an uncut 35-carat diamond, a cane handle of gold and jewels, a ring of gold and jewels, a diamond necklace and two brooches - all from the National Palace in Ajuda - were among jewellery stolen. The Minister of Culture of Portugal said they will change its policy of lending out royal jewels following the robbery. The value of the stolen pieces is incalculable.
Several jewels of the Portuguese Royal Family (which were property of the Portuguese State) were borrowed to a Dutch museum, where they were stolen. Now, the idiot that decided to borrow that priceless portion of our heritage excused herself by saying that the jewels were protected by insurance. SO WHAT? Is money all you care about? Will you expose the insurance money with a piece of paper reading "This is what we received from the insurance company for being stupid idiots who borrow priceless pieces of Portuguese History to foreigners without taking the necessary precautions" .

Btw guys do you know any webpages of organizations where you can make donations for preservation of Portuguese sacred relics?

Twisted Evil
